What Is ADHD?
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder that begins in childhood and often continues through adulthood. At RISE Pediatric Therapies (RPT), we provide therapy to support children with ADHD who present with accompanying language disorders and executive functioning challenges. Symptoms of ADHD
Children with ADHD can present in three different ways: 1) mostly inattentive, 2) mostly hyperactive-impulsive, or 3) as a combination of both. Some of the signs and symptoms of ADHD include the following:
- Daydreaming
- Forgetting or losing things
- Talking excessively
- Engaging in risky behavior
- Making careless mistakes
- Fidgeting or squirming
- Not getting along with others
- Having trouble taking turns (CDC, 2024)
Pediatric ADHD Therapy
At RISE Pediatric Therapies, our speech-language pathologists (SLP) support children and youth in developing practical tools to improve attention, language, and organizational skills affected by ADHD. In particular, we often focus on executive function difficulties, as these are common in ADHD and often accompany language disorders. We may target the following skills:
- Memory
- Organization
- Self-monitoring
- Time management
- Social communication
Some of the strategies we use include visual schedules, checklists, and self-talk. By working with families, SLPs support skill development for better communication, learning, and independence. For your convenience, we are in-network with several insurance providers, and we also accept private pay.
